Anaemia is a condition caused by diminished red blood cells (RBCs) or reduced haemoglobin in RBCs, which impairs the distribution of oxygen to the cells of the body. Anaemia is can be caused by bleeding, the reduced production of RBCs or the increased destruction of RBCs. The most common cause of anaemia is iron deficiency resulting from menstrual blood loss and the excessive use of anti-inflammatories such as aspirin.
Symptoms: fatigue, tiredness, lethargy, dizziness, headaches, constipation, loss of appetite, irritability and paleness of skin. Anaemia is not a diagnosis on its own, it should always be investigated further to find its cause.
