Burns

Burns can be classified into 3 categories: (i) first-degree – where only the outer layer of skin is affected (e.g. sunburn) (ii) second-degree – underlying skin layers are also affected (iii) third-degree – entire thickness of skin and underlying tissue are damaged.

Signs: (i) first-degree – redness (ii) second-degree – redness, blistering, acute pain (iii) third-degree – red, leathery skin with no pain (as the nerve endings are damaged).

Who to consult: Dermatologist, dietician, GP, herbalist, naturopath, pharmacist, psychologist.
