Chemical allergies

The body responds to perceived threats from foreign chemicals by mounting an immune response, which involves the production of antibodies. Some common environmental allergens are air pollution, coal fumes, chlorine, insecticides, hair sprays and cleaning products. The allergic reaction may be instantaneous or it may develop over the next 24-48 hours.

Symptoms: skin rashes, watery eyes, nasal congestion, ringing in the ears, upset stomach, asthma, fatigue, depression and headache.

Who to consult: Dietician, GP, herbalist, homoeopath, naturopath, occupational therapist, pharmacist.
