Chemical poisoning

Poisonous chemicals can accumulate in the body and disrupt the function of internal organs especially the liver. Chemicals that are potentially poisonous are chlorine, heavy metal, insecticides, petroleum products and solvents. Acute poisoning usually arises from accidental ingestion, whereas chronic poisoning is more likely to occur in an occupational setting where there is chronic exposure to the chemical. The presentation of symptoms depends on the type of chemical.

Who to consult: If you suspect that you have chemical poisoning, immediately contact the Poisons Information Hotline 13 11 26 (Australia) and seek directions for treatment. Other practitioners that may be of assistance are: chelation therapist, GP, herbalist, naturopath.
