Eyes - diabetic retinopathy

Retinopathy is a condition where capillaries that supply the retina leaks fluid or blood that can damage the light sensitive cells in the eyes. New capillaries may form in injured areas and this can interfere with vision. If a blood vessel is compromised, it can result in retinal haemorrhage, microaneurysms, retinal oedema and eventually the loss of vision. The condition is usually asymptomatic until it is at an advanced stage.

Who to consult: Dietician, GP, herbalist, naturopath, optician, optometrist, ophthalmologist.
