Fibromyalgia syndrome

Fibromyalgia commonly affects the back, neck, shoulders and the back of the head. Fibromyalgia can be differentiated from other similar conditions as there are 18 specific points on the body that are tender to touch. Fibromyalgia is commonly misdiagnosed for chronic fatigue syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis. Often the symptoms are severe enough to by disabling for the sufferer.

Triggers: overexertion, stress, depression, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, trauma and extremes of temperature.

Symptoms: pain that is burning, shooting, stabbing and throbbing, stiffness in muscles, painful periods, anxiety, palpitations, dry eyes and mouth, impaired memory, dizziness and impaired co-ordination.

Accompanying symptoms: headaches, strange feelings within the skin, insomnia, depression, viral and bacterial infections and irritable bowel syndrome.
