Memory problems

As people age, they are more likely to experience difficulties with their memory. The mildest form of memory problems is age-associated memory impairment. Occasional memory lapses such as misplacing the car keys are a part of everyday life and often do not precede serious memory problems.

Causes: old age, nutrient insufficiency (especially the B vitamins and amino acids), inadequate building blocks for the production of neurotransmitters.

Contributing factors: exposure to free radicals, alcoholism, drug use, allergies, stress, thyroid disorders, poor circulation to the brain and hypoglycaemia.

Who to consult: Dietician, GP, herbalist, homoeopath, naturopath, neurologist, pharmacist, psychologist.
