Meralgia parasthetica

This condition is caused by compression of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, which innervates the outer part of the thigh and is responsible for transmitting sensation from this region. This nerve can be compressed as it exits the pelvis.

Causes: overweight, wearing tight clothing, pregnancy and, diabetes.

Symptoms: tingling, numbness and burning pain. Symptoms worsen after walking or standing.

Who to consult: GP.
