Seborrhoea

Seborrhoea is a condition characterised by scaly patches of skin on the scalp, face and chest, resulting from dysfunction of sebaceous (oil-secreting) glands. Although this condition can occur at any age it is most common in infants.

Causes: nutritional deficiencies (vitamin A and biotin), a yeast organism (Pityrosporum ovale), heredity, climate, stress, anxiety, infrequent shampooing, oily skin and obesity.

Symptom: yellow, greasy and/or dry patches of skin.

Who to consult: Allergist, dermatologist, dietician, GP, herbalist, homoeopath, naturopath, pharmacist.
