Uterine fibroids

Fibroids are benign growths on the inner and external walls of the uterus that usually form in women aged in their late thirties and early forties.

Symptoms: in half the cases, fibroids are asymptomatic. But in the other half they may cause heavy and frequent menstrual periods, anaemia, bleeding between periods, fatigue, weakness, increased vaginal discharge, painful sexual intercourse and bleeding after intercourse. Some fibroids can cause pain in the legs, back, pelvis, bowels or bladder.

Who to consult: GP, gynaecologist, herbalist.
