Vaginitis

Vaginitis is an uncomfortable disorder that results from inflammation of mucous membranes in the vagina. Atrophic vaginitis is found in postmenopausal women and in women who have had complete hysterectomies.

Causes: bacterial and fungal infections, vitamin B deficiency, excessive douching, deodorant sprays, personal hygiene products, tight clothing and the oral contraceptive pill. Contributing factors: pregnancy, diabetes and antibiotics

Symptoms of vaginitis: burning and itching sensation, abnormal discharge.

Symptoms of atrophic vaginitis: itching, burning, painful intercourse and thin watery discharge.
