We speak to the founder of Byron Bay Cleaning Co., a plant-based cleaning brand born from a passion for health and sustainability. Their products are 100% vegan, cruelty-free and gluten-free, with all of their ingredients ethically and locally sourced in NSW.

How did your brand come to be and when?

Living in Byron Bay we are a part of a community that is extremely passionate about health and environmental sustainability. We wanted to find a way that was safe, yet effective at eliminating harsh chemicals in our households, oceans and waterways. In 2018 the brand came to life with our first two products, the All-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant and the Powerful Heavy-Duty Orange Degreaser.

What was the initial vision for your brand? Has that changed over time?

Our initial vision was to create effective cleaning products without any nasties. Not only did we achieve that, but we created products with the highest level of sanitation available, making it the only plant-based cleaning product that can eliminate 99.9999% of germs and bacteria. This kind of sanitation is usually only found in harsh chemicals like bleach or chlorine. Since the beginning we have now grown to a diverse range with 16 different products, including our new baby and pet care range.

Where did the brand name come from?

Our brand name comes from where the concept and brand originated. People associate Byron Bay with the beautiful beaches here and being that the ocean and the environment is such an integral part of our brand the name was a perfect way to represent that.

What/Who are your products suitable for?

Our products are suitable for everyone! Because all our ingredients are naturally derived, they’re safe for all ages and all skin types, especially those with sensitive skin or skin conditions. We are 100% vegan, cruelty free and gluten free. We wanted to make sure we were as inclusive as possible.

What are some of your favourite products in your range?

Our All-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant is our number one product; there isn’t much it can’t do. My personal favourite however is the Healing Body Wash. I am prone to dry skin and I don’t even need to use a moisturiser after I shower anymore. We also discovered after a few red wines that the Orange Degreaser lifts out red wine stains!

Where do you source your ingredients?

All of our ingredients are locally and ethically sourced in New South Wales.

Can you tell us a little more about the ingredients in your products?

Our whole brand is built around being free of any harsh chemicals. Everything we use is organically-derived from plants and minerals. We don’t hide anything in our products. You can find our comprehensive ingredients list on our website.

What’s next for your brand?

We’re moving towards being completely plastic free in a unique way that is important to us. Even though we use 100% recyclable and refillable plastics already, we’re not stopping there. We want to eliminate plastics all together! That is our next goal.
