We sit down with Claire Lim, CEO of Maeraki Australia, to talk ingestible beauty, collagen-boosting magic and how to drink your way to glowing, healthier skin.

What makes you feel wild and alive?

I feel most wild and alive when I am travelling; I love soaking up different cultures and seeing new places. I’m really looking forward to travelling again when the borders reopen. Please tell us about the nutrient-dense products and formulas you have created at Maeraki? Our team are huge advocates for marine collagen. We see and feel the impacts it has on our body in combating signs of aging, hair loss and brittle nails. However, we also know that marine collagen has to be taken at an optimal dosage and combined with other ingredients to perform at its best. We have created formulas to complement our marine collagen, which provide a more complete approach to natural, ingestible beauty.

Our bestselling Radiance is formulated using high concentration marine collagen that is highly bioavailable and supercharged with synergistic ingredients to further amplify the anti-ageing effects.

Harmony is a bio-fermented blend supercharged with antioxidant-rich superfoods that provide a broad spectrum of probiotics to target gut health, which is the foundation of healthy skin. And Vitality is a low calorie, anti-inflammatory protein, combined with key micronutrients such as zinc, magnesium and iron to support healing and boost energy levels.

Where did the name Maeraki come from?

The word Maeraki is inspired by the Greek word – Meraki, which means to do something with soul, creativity or love – to put something of yourself in your work. The meaning resonates strongly with our values. Every member in our team is passionate about creating something that is truly meaningful for our customers.

What are some of the principles that you incorporate into Maeraki?

The team behind Maeraki have always been firm believers in natural nutrients and holistic health. Our team has been trialling natural supplements and nutrients for over ten years in the pursuit of glowing, healthy skin.

One of our key principles is being 100 per cent natural. All of our ingredients and nutrients, including micronutrients, come from a wholefood source, so there is nothing artificial or synthetic in our products. For example, we source our Vitamin C from Acerola Berry and Vitamin D from Shiitake Mushroom. We believe that fully natural is the way to go, as it ensures the body is consuming our supplements as though they were food, which delivers beneficial antioxidants and phytochemicals.

In our experience of trialling other ingestible beauty products, we’ve found many on the market are too expensive to consume at the right dosage. With this in mind, one of our goals was to make an affordable range of luxury, natural supplements. Our formulations take into consideration the right dosages and the number of servings required to get the best results. We recommend generous servings with all of our products!

What are you doing to minimise the environmental impact of your brand?

We are committed to minimising our environmental impact in every way. Our marine collagen is derived from wild caught fish through sustainable fishing methods. This is vital to ensure the wild fish population is maintained at a productive and healthy level. We also ensure that all our packaging materials are either recyclable or biodegradable.

What do you find the most rewarding about what you do?

Most of our customers are very open to sharing their personal experience with our products and how they have helped them. Listening to their stories and how our products are making positive impact to their lives are what I find most rewarding.

What is your top tip for healthy, glowing skin?

My tip for glowing skin is to nourish your skin with the right nutrients and supplements, and be diligent about taking them every day. I used to suffer from hair loss and dry skin consistently, but ever since I started taking marine collagen and gut supplements on a daily basis for many years, I can see and feel the difference. I no longer have issues with wrinkles, pigmentation and acne. Unfortunately, there is no shortcut to slow down aging and it is a lifetime commitment.

What’s next for Maeraki?

We are working on new products that will launch in the second half of 2021 and early 2022. We are very excited about these new products as they target the different needs of our customers. In addition, we will continue to build awareness about the power of ingestible beauty.
