Get to know artist Yanii Putrii
Germany-based illustrator Yanii Putrii shares her creative practice, dream collaboration and what makes her feel the most wild and alive.

What makes you feel the most wild and alive?

Music and being creative gets me wild and alive. When I listen to good music I feel more motivated, more lively and have more fun with whatever I’m doing.

Where are you based?

I’m now based in Karlsruhe in south-western Germany after moving here in 2020. Before Karlsruhe, I lived and grew up in Hamburg.

When did your love for art first begin?

When I was little, I always dreamed of being a designer. I studied communication design, slowly found my style and knew roughly where my strengths were.

How has a sense of ambition and drive shaped where you are now?

I’m generally a determined person. If I want to achieve something, I’ll work hard and do everything to achieve it. I love what I’m doing now because it’s my passion.

Where do you find inspiration for your illustrations?

All over. Sometimes a walk can be inspiration for me because I think a certain colour is beautiful. I also love to look at books, magazines or social media for inspiration.

Please share with us your creative/artistic practice.

I play with my colours, always trying to find new colour palettes to use for illustrations. If I don’t know how to draw a pose correctly, I search for an image then practice the pose over and over or use it as a template to make my own art. Some days I have no ideas, so I just start drawing and, in the process, I find my way towards an illustration I like. I like to start with a cup of tea and soothing music. If the weather is good, I love to draw in nature.

What would be your dream collaboration?

I’ve always wanted to work with Flow magazine and actually had the chance to work with them last year, which was really exciting. I would love to work with some interior companies or with a brand to make clothes. I would love to design clothes! There are many incredible companies that I would like to work with and I’m definitely looking forward to every step and collaboration in my career.
