Is it time to start your yoga teacher training?

Once you have been doing yoga for more than a couple of years, you will likely feel the calling to do a teacher training. You may be ready to embark on a teaching path, sharing your passion for yoga with others, or perhaps you just want to explore aspects of yoga beyond asana.

A Yoga Teacher Training with Byron Yoga Centre offers the opportunity to quench your thirst for knowledge. You will dive into yoga anatomy and philosophy, learn meditation and pranayama techniques plus participate in theoretical and practical sessions that break down key poses, building your understanding of their benefits, correct alignment and variations of the asana for people working with injuries or limitations. Those wanting to build confidence as a teacher can take advantage of the practical teaching opportunities on offer.

Wherever you are on your yoga journey, a training will move you further along that path. Sharing such an enriching group experience will connect you to like-minded yogis that have the potential to become lifelong friends.

Byron Yoga Centre encourages you to research the options and to contact them for advice to ensure you pick the course that best suits your individual needs.

Level 1 residential course at Byron Yoga Retreat Centre

This 200-hour certification is the minimum requirement that yoga studios, gyms and wellness centres look for when they employ teachers. Byron Yoga Centre offers this course as either a 20-day complete course where you gain the certification on the successful completion of the residential intensive; or as a 12-day concise course that requires some additional online and correspondence elements post-intensive.

Anna, the reservations manager at Byron Yoga Centre tells us, “It takes about six months to one year for most of our students from the 12-day Level 1 to complete their assignments, teaching practice and journaling and to become certified teachers. I would recommend the 20-day complete course option to anyone who is keen to get started on their yoga teaching career,” she says.

“However, a significant number of our Level 1 students are not planning to teach immediately and are simply wanting to delve deeper into yoga in all its aspects. For these participants I recommend the 12-day option as more cost-effective and less intense.”

Flexible Learning Level 1

Are you keen to get started but not yet ready to commit to dates for the residential course? The Flexible Learning option may be your answer. This course is perfect for those who would like to get started on their correspondence components and then book in for the intensive at a later point in time. This style of course is most suited to experienced yoga practitioners or those who have already been teaching informally and who are confident, independent learners.

500 Hour RYT (Recognised Yoga Teacher) Certification

More and more, those who are serious about making yoga teaching a viable career are looking beyond the traditional 200-hour course. Byron Yoga Centre offers the advanced 300-hour course, which combines with the Level 1 for a 500 hour certification.

Students can do the full 500 hours as a 40-day residential training at Byron Yoga Retreat Centre and then need to complete additional teaching practice and some correspondence components to gain the 500-hour certificate. But as the Level 1 qualification is awarded on completion of the residential participants can start teaching immediately.

Another option is to do the Level 1 and Level 2 as two separate residential courses, perhaps with a six-month or one-year period between them. This is ideal for those who prefer a slower, steadier learning pace with time to integrate the experience and knowledge. Byron Yoga Centre is happy to honour the discounted price of the 500-hour course for this option.
