New Year’s Eve party food ideas

What better way to counteract your Christmas overeating than with a healthy New Year’s Eve spread? I’ve rounded up seven delicious recipes from my new book Supercharged Food, Eat Clean, Green and Vegetarian.

Wake up feeling good on New Year’s Day, ready to set your intentions for the coming year. There’s really no need for an elaborate menu. Serving up these hearty bites will guarantee a relaxed and festive celebration.

Red Capsicum & Hazelnut Pesto

Ingredients

  • 1½ red capsicums, seeds & membrane removed, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, peeled & minced
  • ⅔ cup basil leaves
  • 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
  • 2 tbsp wheat-free tamari
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
  • Juice & zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 135g lightly toasted hazelnuts
  • 2 tbsp cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil
  • Pinch Celtic sea salt & freshly ground pepper

Method


  • Place all the ingredients in a food processor and whizz until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • Note: This pesto will keep in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Tip: For a delicious variation, try substituting the hazelnuts with blanched almonds, or sunflower seeds and pepitas (pumpkin seeds).
