Filling in the gaps of the modern diet — Meet Melrose

We speak to Belinda Groves, head of marketing and sales at Melrose, to find out more about the brand’s organic supplement that helps to fill the gaps in your diet.

Tell us about Melrose.

Our vision at Melrose is to make it easier for everyone to feel and be healthier, naturally. We’re firm believers in the power of natural, wholefood ingredients and the long-term benefits they can have for a healthy life, but we also get that eating the perfect diet every day is near impossible! Our superfood blends are formulated with nature’s most potent ingredients, and are bursting with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to boost daily nutrition. Whether added to food or taken on their own, each of our products aims to address common diet deficiencies and offer a boost of concentrated nutrients that wouldn’t be possible through food alone.

Tell us about Organic Essential Greens.

We are thrilled to have been able to launch our Organic Essential Greens product with a new pineapple flavour. Essential Greens is one of the key products within our range, originally launching into the market in 1996. It is made with just four of nature’s most nutrient-dense green superfoods: chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass and barley grass. It is 100 per cent organic and has no added sugar or nasties.

Essential Greens Pineapple flavour is a delicious way to increase your greens intake as a boost of nutrition, or for when life gets in the way of eating the perfect diet every day. Filled with antioxidants and plant polyphenols, it helps to detoxify the body. The blend also supports improved gut health and may reduce the symptoms of bloating.

Essential Greens Pineapple is perfect taken mixed into a glass of water. It can also easily be incorporated into fruit juices, smoothies or any healthy treats that would taste great with a hint of pineapple.

What is the story of your brand?

Melrose was started in 1978 by Geoff Steinicke, a chemist who started to realise the significance of health foods and set about importing and selling preventive medicines such as flaxseed oil. Fast-forward a couple of years, and Melrose opened
a new factory in Melbourne. Today we have multiple sites across Melbourne producing nutritional oils and superfood blends that are shipped across Australia and worldwide.

Working with organic, pesticide-free raw materials has always been at the heart of the Melrose business. Geoff himself received an Australian Certified Organic “Hall of Fame” award in 2015 and his vision lives on since the business was sold to our current owners, an Australian family whose values align closely with Geoff’s.

What has been the highlight of your brand story?

Melrose Organic Essential Greens is the number-one-selling greens powder in Australian pharmacies, something we’re pretty stoked about!

What has been the most challenging part of the journey?

When Melrose was founded in 1979, health food was a very emerging category and there weren’t many players on the market. Today, consumers worldwide understand the importance of a healthy diet and that natural supplements can play a key role in healthy living. It’s fantastic news for our supermarket shelves, but it does create more healthy competition on our end!

We have significantly grown our operations over the years to meet increased demand. We ensure we have the right expertise in-house to be constantly innovating and creating new products that continue to deliver to our high-quality standards.

Why is being certified organic important to your brand?

We believe in always using the best-quality ingredients, which to us means Australian and organic where possible. Particularly when manufacturing natural health products, it’s vital that no toxic pesticides with potentially negative health effects end up in our blends.

While we strive to source ingredients locally, many of our ingredients are better suited to different climatic environments, so we purchase them from across the world to ensure the materials are pesticide-free and organic. We want consumers to be able to trust that Melrose ingredients are high-quality and be assured that our ingredients are sourced mindfully and with their health in mind.
