Want luxurious, healthy hair all year long?

Haircare at home: nurture and revitalise your hair

Haircare does not have to be confined to a treatment at the hairdressers. Many of us do our own nourishing hair treatments at home, but finding time to do this can prove to be challenging.  And the last thing you want to do is use chemicals that can damage your hair. When was the last time you had a bad hair day? Could it be that your hair needs a nice, natural treatment? Is it recovering from the wind? Is it dry? Brittle? Well, the best thing to do is to use some natural oils that you can mix up yourself. Here are some natural DIY home hair treatments that will not only nurture and nourish your hair, but will also make it smell delicious.

Haircare does not have to be confined to a treatment at the hairdressers.

Carrier oils

Take 1/2 cup carrier oil to begin. A carrier oil is a neutral base oil that is mixed to reduce fragrance and strength of the other oils. Many aromatherapy oils are too strong to be used directly on your skin or scalp so it is advisable to dilute them. The carrier oil must be a pure organic oil, such as jojoba, grape seed or sunflower oil. Mix with the carrier oil 6-8 drops of sandalwood with the same amounts of lavender and geranium. Mix these well and warm the oil. Apply to damp hair and cover in plastic wrap with a hot towel for about 20 minutes, then wash your hair with your usual shampoo.

Alternatively, if you want a lavender and rosemary hot oil scent, you can add just 5 drops of rosemary and 10 of lavender. Take a sniff of the different oils when you buy and mix them to your liking.

Coconut oil

For a deeper oil treatment, use a tablespoon of coconut oil plus the same amounts of almond, jojoba and evening primrose oils. First, melt the coconut oil slowly (remember, heating oils affects them), then add the other oils and let the mixture cool. Afterwards, add 5 drops of rosemary and the same number of drops of roman chamomile. Apply it to your hair and wrap it in a towel for about 40 minutes, then use your normal shampoo to wash it out.

There is nothing as natural and beautiful as clean, pleasantly scented hair.

Organic market oils

It can be expensive sometimes to buy organic oils but if you take a look online, it is well worth the effort because you will always have some to use as a treatment when you need it. You can do a treatment every 6-8 weeks to keep your hair looking healthy and luscious.

Remember also to use a good shampoo and conditioner. Both should be free of chemicals as they will dry and strip your hair of nutrients. There is nothing as natural and beautiful as clean, pleasantly scented hair. Your clean hair will complement what you wear, how you look, how you feel, give you more confidence and the oils mentioned above will elevate your mood. That’s pretty good for an all-in-one package, don’t you think?
