The Organic Milk Co. makes organic dairy easy!
Tell our readers The Organic Milk Co. story.
The Organic Milk Co. is a collaboration of the largest network of organic dairy farmers in Australia. The company made the move towards ethical, certified-organic farming practices to deliver Australian families organic dairy products that are free from genetically modified ingredients, chemicals, pesticides, added hormones and antibiotics.
Our journey commenced in 2015 after the directors of Australian Consolidated Milk (the parent company of The Organic Milk Co.) noted the growing demand for Australian-made organic dairy products. After identifying the opportunity, a recruitment and conversion program commenced to take the organic milk pool from zero in 2015 to what is now the largest in Australia.
This program has provided farmers a full solution from soil management, herd health and organic feed supply to financial and certification assistance. Its model ensures that every dairy farmer who supplies The Organic Milk Co. is guaranteed a fair price for their organic milk. This assurance enables a sustainable organic milk supply and price for families and a fair price for Australian famers.
In 2019, Australian Consolidated Milk constructed a state-of-the-art processing facility with specialised systems to effectively process organic milk for the retail and ingredients market. This investment has been key to delivering high-quality, cost-competitive products and signals a long-term commitment to the organic dairy industry in Australia.
If a reader was new to The Organic Milk Co., which product in your range should they start with and why?
Our products start with a passion for quality, organic milk. Made with the goodness of Australian organic milk, The Organic Milk Co. Salted and Unsalted Butter provide a depth of flavour and richness to your dish that other butters simply can’t match. Look for butter that is deep yellow in colour as this means the organic milk has come from grass-fed cows raised outdoors all year round.
Certified Organic is important to The Organic Milk Co.; tell our readers more about your organic offerings.
Organic certification is critically important to our brand and the industry. The three main barriers to consumers buying organic products are trust, value and accessibility of product. Without certification, consumer trust is hard to gain and in some cases can be eroded very quickly by products and brands that make organic claims without the certification to back it up. Our business has a strong environmental management program in place with a pipeline of initiatives to further reduce our carbon footprint.
The organic farming system has a relatively low-level impact on the land with a focus on regenerative crops and self-sufficiency to supply water and feed. We’re aiming for our factory and operations to be carbon neutral by 2023 and supply all products in fully recyclable packaging.
What is one of the highlights of your organic journey to date?
It has to be partnering with Australian farmers and families to deliver certified-organic dairy products. All our farmers are passionate about the health and wellbeing of their cows and the environment, and take enormous pride in supplying organic milk that will be turned into organic dairy products for Australian families.
Where can we buy The Organic Milk Co. products?
