Sexy ageing

There are plenty of creams an potions out there that promise to take years off your appearance. Some of them may do something for you but there’s also a lot of snake oil out there and it can be expensive snake oil at that. So it’s good news when something comes along that can keep you looking younger and be free into the bargain. It’s even better when that something can be pleasurable which is why the news that having more sex keeps you looking young will be good news for just about everyone.

The news comes from a psychologist who presented his findings to the British Psychological Society after examining the effects of having regular sex at an older age.

The researcher pulled together a range of research showing that an active sex life keeps you younger at many levels. For instance, a Welsh study found that overall death risk was 50 per cent lower among men with high orgasmic frequency (twice a week) compared to those men who had a low orgasmic frequency. This was backed up by a study from Northern Ireland showing that people with an active sex life lived longer than those who had a sluggish sex life.

According to this researcher regular sex also makes you look younger because it releases endorphins which are natural pain killers and it can reduce cholesterol levels. Previous research has shown that high cholesterol levels can lead to more wrinkles. Apparently, regular sex also leads to a “brighter” skin.

It all adds up to the fact that this researchers believes that an active sex life is essential for people of all ages including those of an older age. Indeed he says than an active sex life is essential for “preserving youth”. You can’t bottle it, but there’s one of the more pleasant prescriptions for healthy ageing you are likely to receive.
