Do you take Salmon

We need Omega-3 fatty acids to stay well. A deficiency in Omega- 3 which can be easily caused by bad eating habits will affect our cholesterol levels, heart, emotional well being and focus. It will also affect the cardiovascular system, our focus, triglyceride levels and affect our health during pregnancy and breast feeding. At least this is what all the latest scientific studies now tell us.

Of course whilst it is always best to ingest Omega 3 naturally often we can’t get enough of it through natural means these days to undo the damage we have already done to our bodies. This makes it necessary to take supplements. However one needs to be careful they are not allergic to either fish or gelatin and that they are not on certain anticoagulant drugs.

The big question of course these days is how to get enough of the food into our body to make a difference to our health. Many people are not in favour of supplements and remain in the dark ages thinking we simply need to eat right. Often it is too late for that with toxins flooding our bloodstream and gut and our body invaded by the hundreds of waves from mobile phones etc criss-crossing our world. But what can you do? That’s modern living unless you want to go to the top of a mountain in Tibet somewhere where you may actually escape it all.

So supplements are an important part of modern health. We always have the choice of course. To either take natural supplements now or drugs as we get older to undo the illnesses our degenerated lifestyle has often managed to manifest. Even if you buy organic do you really know how many mobile phone waves have been through that broccoli on its way to you?

I know it sounds a bit ridiculous but that is the reality of it and one of the latest foods to attract attention is salmon. The toxin level of salmon when farmed shows that it has 13 toxins more than wild salmon. These toxins include dioxins and pesticides.

One study found that salmon from Europe, especially Scotland, was the worst culprit whilst next in line was USA, Canada and the least was Chile. Over half the world’s salmon is farmed and levels are far lower in our southern hemisphere as we have less pollution (and less people).

There are many different views on safety levels which is also a concern because agencies can’t seem to agree what level qualifies as toxic. It has been claimed that overseas in USA, Canada and Chile  many fish farmers are slowly replacing some of the fish oil in salmon feed (a source of toxins) with soybean and canola oil to lower toxins.

In New Zealand it was revealed that two large salmon farms have been feeding their fish with chicken feathers from an Australian supplier. They say this is a high quality safe source of protein and treated to destroy any bacteria. Surely this will alter the chemistry of the salmon and consumer groups are concerned that bacteria could infect farmed fish.

What does this mean for the future of people who eat salmon and look to ‘food’ to give them their nutrition? We all need to rethink the way we eat and start taking some NATURAL supplements now. I cannot emphasise the word natural enough as even our stores are filled with lots of synthetic vitamins which again have their own detrimental effect on some bodies. So lets think carefully about what we eat.
