How to create a calm & harmonious space to start your New Year

Energy clearing is creating a space in your home or office which is calm and harmonious. This year has been a difficult year for most of us so it’s a good time now to use the holiday season to clear your home and start the New Year fresh. Your home is your safe place where you should feel happy, protected and nurtured. Taking good care of your home and the energy within it can be beneficial as it also clears your personal space, assists in your relationships and much more.

What is negative energy?

Negative energy can be found all around you and is in forms such as subtle annoyances or shapes hanging around our aura. We often complain about other people’s negative situations, ideas and behaviour but we need to understand that negativity is just a form of energy. When we do this it can help us to calmly and consistently deal with it in many areas of our life. It can take a lot of continuous practice and awareness to learn this and clear your energy field and that of your home.

Sources of negativity

A major source of negativity is emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, conflict or misunderstandings. When these emotions are expressed and experienced in your home the negative energy they release becomes trapped. This is why it needs to be cleared. Other ways it can be brought into your home is through the energy of the land from natural features like underground water or from areas that carry the imprints of violence and destruction. Items that are given as a gift or that you have brought home from old estate sales, antique shops or second-hand stores may bring negative vibrations into your house. Sometimes things that are negative for you are not necessarily negative to other life forms. It’s important to make sure you have balance and harmony in your home using Feng Shui which teaches you specific house features inside and outside. It’s good to contact an expert to help you with this.

What is negative energy?

Knowing what type of energy surrounds you is easy as you will know because of the way you feel. If you don’t feel peaceful, nourished, calm or vibrant joy then there is a good chance that the space in your home is negative. When you first walk into the house you need to listen and focus so you can feel the energy within the room. Your body knows how to read this if you just listen to those first couple of seconds when entering. When you do this you will not miss understanding what the space around you is like – negative or positive.

Clearing the energy

There is more than one way to clear the energy within your home. Smudging is effective and easy and is done using dried herbs including sage, cedar and lavender wrapped in a smudge stick. Essential oils are another way and you can use them through a diffuser or make a spray. The best oils are frankincense, lavender, sage, mint, lemon verbena and juniper. You could also try burning resin or Palo Santo. Sound is another way to clear negative energy. Play music such as mantras, or primal sounds of drumming or singing bowls. This can be live or via a recording. You can also clap the energy around your house to clear it. Remember fresh air and natural light to let the wonderful vibes of nature to enter, especially early in the morning when the world is just waking up and the air is fresh and clear. Consulting an expert is also a good idea to get you started. Find someone that can teach you about energy clearing and encourage you to become empowered so you can use the techniques throughout your life’s journey to keep you on track.
