Who wouldn’t want to wake up to a powerful combo of magnesium-rich chocolate and a hit of sweet antioxidants in the morning? This combo contains everything you need to set yourself up to thrive. And with the help of cacao’s brain-stimulating properties, it will enhance your mood and attitude for the day.

Serves: 2

GF, V, VG

Ingredients

Method

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1¼ cups raspberries
  • 1 banana, peeled
  • ½ cup strawberries
  • 200 mL milk of choice
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  1. Combine all the ingredients in a blender and whiz until smooth.
  2. Tip: You can use frozen fruit, it doesn’t need to be fresh!

This is the ultimate smoothie; it helps to clean and prime the gut, it repopulates your good bacteria, feeds them with healthy prebiotic rich fibres and also provides the amino acids needed to repair and rebuild the intestinal wall, strengthening it, so that you can absorb more nutrients from the foods that you’re eating.

If you don’t have access to fresh vegetables for these smoothie recipes, it’s OK to use whatever you have frozen. I’m growing kale and rocket in the garden at the moment, and I put it into the freezer and use that. It’s easy to grow even if you have it in a pot. Don’t forget that it’s OK to freeze your greens like spinach, kale and rocket too. That way you can always be sure to have vegetables on notice whenever you need them.
