Impotence

Impotence or chronic erectile dysfunction is a state where a male is unable to achieve or maintain an erection adequate for sexual intercourse. Any factors that impact on blood vessels, hormones or nervous function have the capacity to cause impotence. Impotence is a chronic recurring experience that commonly occurs in men over the age of forty.

Contributing factors: arteriosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease, low thyroid hormone levels, alcohol, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, sexually transmitted diseases and drugs (e.g. antidepressants, anti-hypertensives, nicotine, ulcer medications).

Who to consult: GP, herbalist, homeopath, naturopath, pharmacist, psychologist, psychiatrist, urologist.
