Oily skin

Oily skin is the result of sebaceous glands in the skin producing more oil than is required for lubrication of the skin. There are benefits to having oily skin, as it slows the development of age spots, fine lines, wrinkles and discolouration and it tans evenly. On the downside, oily skin is prone to breakouts and has a shiny and greasy feeling.

Contributing factors: diet, hormone levels, pregnancy, birth control pills, cosmetics, weather and humidity, adolescence.

Symptoms: clogged pores and blemishes.

Who to consult: Dermatologist, dietician, GP, herbalist, homoeopath, naturopath.
