Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD although primarily a childhood disorder, is now commonly found in adults as well. In adults, ADHD is more concerned with an inability for self-regulation and the completion of tasks, leading to marital conflict, infidelity and financial and employment problems.

Causes of ADHD: heredity, anxiety, allergies, smoking during pregnancy, oxygen deprivation during birth, hyperinsulinaemia, environmental pollutants and prenatal trauma.

Symptoms: inability to pay attention or have impulse control, procrastination, difficulty concentrating and restless, impatient and hyperactive behaviour.

Who to consult: Counselling, dietician, GP, herbalist, meditation practitioner, naturopath, psychologist.
