Discover gorgeous Gaia in NSW
Nestled amid lush green valleys and undulating hills in the fertile hinterland of Byron Bay in northern New South Wales, the multi-award-winning Gaia Retreat & Spa sits among stunning subtropical gardens on 25 acres, proudly able to boast magnificent 360-degree views of the land below. Gaia is conveniently located only a 15-minute drive from Byron Bay, 20 minutes from Ballina Airport, and an hour from Coolangatta, Gold Coast Airport in Queensland. There is a host of transfer options available, including luxurious limousine services that are either part of the retreat packages or can be arranged upon request.
Gaia boasts 23 beautifully appointed rooms, suites and villas set amongst lush subtropical rainforest gardens. The rooms are contemporary, spacious and elegant in style. There are several accommodation options available, depending on your budget. These range from the elegant but modest Layana Room right through to the brand-new, luxurious Komala Villas that feature their own private saltwater plunge pools, large outdoor decks with magnificent views and private treatment areas.
All rooms are well appointed, and most include televisions, DVD players and sound systems. All are stocked with robes, slippers and a sample collection of Gaia’s new, all-natural, certified-organic skincare range, Retreatment, which is simply delicious.
At the heart of the Gaia experience is the multi-award winning Gaia Day Spa. With 13 treatment rooms, it is set in the fragrant gardens overlooking the tranquil pool and spa area. The day spa has enticed some of the finest healers and therapists in Australia and there is an extensive menu of therapeutic treatments, each one offering guests a unique experience guaranteed to enhance health and wellbeing. Treatments range from blissful full-body massages and decadent facials to nurturing half-day Gaia signature packages. The 25-acre property also offers a heated swimming pool, tennis court, spa, sauna, fitness yoga centre, naturopathic clinic, breathtaking lookouts, walking tracks and its own organic Garden.
Gaia is one of Australia’s most-awarded boutique lifestyle pamper retreats. Gaia Retreat & Spa creates a space where you own the experience — a place to refocus, rebalance and truly restore. Choose an educational walk around the organic vegetable garden or if you’re feeling a little more active and up for a steep hike, the small township of Newrybar is a great destination for a coffee and some window shopping. Unlike some health spas, Gaia’s guests aren’t confined to quarters.
On the menu
Another highlight of the resort is the unique Gaia cuisine. All gourmet meals are served in Kukura House, the central meeting-room lodge where everyone gathers. The day begins with a sumptuous buffet and hot breakfast, followed by a light lunch, while the evening unfolds with a luxurious three-course fine-dining experience.
The Gaia approach to food is hearty and healthy with in-house chefs personally choosing the freshest organic produce available from the resort’s garden as well as from nearby orchards and plantations. The menu changes daily and is customised to each individual’s preferences, desires and special dietary requirements.
Gaia offers various all-inclusive retreat packages, ranging from two- to seven-day experiences. These packages cover everything from accommodation, gourmet meals and snacks to daily activities, morning yoga and select spa treatments. All packages are designed to be adjusted and tailored to individual guest’s needs as requested, therefore a range of spa treatments or focus add-ons can be added for an extra cost at any stage.
Gaia Day Spa is also open for guests who’d like to enjoy the facilities for one day and indulge in the large range of 40-plus treatments on offer.
Last year marked Gaia Retreat & Spa’s 10th anniversary and was also the year in which Gaia was honoured with a staggering 12 industry awards, including World’s Best Day Spa and Oceania’s Best Day Spa at the World Spa Awards 2015, Australasia’s Leading Boutique Hotel at the World Travel Awards 2015, and Best Wellness Cuisine and Best Retreat for Solo Travellers at The Spa Traveller Awards 2015.
