Sore throat remedies

A sore throat is one of the most annoying side affects of winter and colds – and it doesn’t stop there. For some, they can pop up at any given time of the year. But don’t fret; there are many home remedies out there to naturally soothe your sore throat.

Due to the sheer number of at home sore throat remedies it would be impossible to list them all. It seems like everyone has their own remedy they swear by, so I’ve put together a list of three favourites:

The most common home remedy stereotype seems to be home made gargles or hot drinks. There are hundreds of sore throat remedies rumored to work, so lets get down to business.

The first and most important remedy for a sore throat is rest! If you don’t feel that you need medical attention, rest is possibly the best thing for you. Taking it easy gives your body more energy to fight the infection.

Apple Cider Vinegar. We’ve already done an article on the many wonders and miracles this method has procured. If you haven’t seen it click here. As a sore throat remedy Apple Cider Vinegar strikes once again!

It’s as simple as adding;

  • 1 tablespoon honey and
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar, to
  • 1 glass hot water

Mix well and sip slowly. Don’t let it get cold though. Take as often as desired.

Now we all know the taste is horrible, and you may want to sweeten things up a bit. If you have to though, avoid sugar, stick to honey, as virus’ feed off of sugary goodness.

Keep your throat warm. It’s a good idea to sip hot drinks and teas to soothe your aching throat. It’s like keeping a hot pack on sore muscles.

Herbal teas or hot homemade lemonade is an excellent soother. If you feel like something a bit more substantial try a drink of hot water, honey, lemon and ginger.

Just add

  • 1 inch ginger – minced or sliced finely
  • 1 Tsp Honey
  • 1 Half lemon
  • 1 Glass hot water

Let it all stew together and strain before drinking. My neighbours use this all the time, and they’re the healthiest people I know!

And last but not least, what is supposedly the most amazing cure for a sore throat on planet earth:-

The Cayenne Pepper Gargle

It is said to have been around for nigh on thousands of years as a remedy, so there should be something behind all the rumors.

Try this Gargle for a few days and see if you feel a difference:

  • ¼ Tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 Tbsp lemon
  • 1 cup warm water

You might have to swallow some of it to reach the very back of your throat and if you can put up with the hot sensation of the chilli it will all be worth it for some sweet relief.

The best part about it is you can put Cayenne pepper in almost anything! Add it to soups and broths, to noodles, orange juice, tea, and even hot chocolate for a little extra kick.

Cayenne pepper is great as it warms the body up while you heal. Making you feel nice and toasty warm inside.
